FAQ
Are you in the Coast Guard or do you work at the Canal?
No, I simply am interested in Marine and USCG Communications and decided to make a website and online stream covering it one day.
Is monitoring these frequencies legal?
Yes, it is perfectly legal to own and use a scanner in Massachusetts, as long as the information heard is not used to commit a crime, or for personal benefit. (Don't listen to a taxi companys frequency to steal their customers, or use a scanner to hide from the police and your golden, at least in MA.)
Where are you located? (Where is the recieving equipment?)
I am located near the east end of the Canal on the Cape side.
Is the radio used to feed a standard Marine Radio?
No, it is a VHF Ham radio that is capable of recieving marine band transmissions. A RadioShack Scanner is also used to cover frequencies the Yaesu won't tune to.
Why use two radios for the feed? why not put all the frequencies in the scanner?
I use the Yaesu for as much as possible, because it has a higher quality reciever and antenna system, but it also has a limited frequency range, which makes the use of the scanner necessary to cover all frequencies used by the USCG.
